Stray Kids’ very own 3RACHA (Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han) are in charge of the bulk of the group’s music. Here’s a look inside how they wrote one of the songs off their newest album, ODDINARY.

Stray Kids’ initially decided to work on their b-side “VENOM” because, as Bang Chan says, they were, “mesmerized by the plucking instruments.” The instrumental for the song was created by American DJ DallasK, who Stray Kids’ previously worked on “Double Knot” with.

Interestingly, this song has been in the works for awhile. It turns out Bang Chan actually spoiled “VENOM” two years ago when he showed himself working on the track during one of his vlogs.

It seems like it was a good choice to put it on this particular album. As Changbin says, “We wanted to have a maniac tone. I think the unique and interesting sounds from “VENOM” really set the mood for the entire album.”

When deciding to write the song, 3RACHA started with the word, “spiderweb,” which is also the song’s Korean name.

Changbin remembers where he got the idea for the “spiderweb” idea.

I remember coming up with the word ‘spiderweb’ after watching a spiderweb hanging from the ceiling during our jacket filming.

Though Bang Chan says that they usually gather inspiration “from a lot of things” including “comic books, movies, anime, the news” and the people around them, this song’s entire concept came to fruition after listening to the instrumental.

Han specified that the sound of the track is what ultimately led to the spider concept.

First of all, the track itself sounds like a spiderweb breaking, which is what led us to come up with the spider concept. We really worked hard on this track because we wanted to have the melody and rap give off a distinct vibe.

— Han

The vibe, according to Changbin, is dark and fatal.

Using the keyword ‘spiderweb,’ we wanted to express a person’s fatal charms that are difficult to escape from, which led to the song giving off a dark atmosphere that equally is fatal.

— Changbin

Bang Chan concludes, “we finished off the song with the message, ‘your charms trapped me like a spider web.'”
