It may not be surprising to hear that MONSTA X have strict rules when it comes to being on time. However, what might surprise you is that the rules actually weren’t put into place by their management–it was the members themselves who came up with them!
On an episode of Weekly Idol, MONSTA X shared that they put into place a late fee: if a member is even a minute late to a schedule, they have to pay 50,000 won (approximately $43 USD)! The fine increases as well, doubling every 20 minutes. For instance, if a member is 20 minutes late, he’ll have to pay 100,000 won (approx. $89 USD).
Although the fee is inconvenient, they’ve found that it has really helped them show up on time. However, there have been plenty instances where the fee just wasn’t enough. One time, leader Shownu didn’t pay attention to where they were supposed to meet, and ended up having to pay 200,000 won (approx. $177 USD)!
kihyun’s wish was for shownu to be more patient. they have two practice studios and shownu only paid attention to the time and not location in the gc and went to the wrong studio 20 minutes early. everyone else was at the other and he ended up paying a $180 late fee. 🥲 https://t.co/YrrRdjunzV

Having to pay that enormous fee certainly took a toll on him! In a recent interview with ELLE Korea, Shownu, who’s known for his calm demeanour, explained that this late fee is the one thing that actually makes him nervous.
“It can ruin your life!” he said about the fee. “If I’m late, that’s when I get really nervous and scared.”
It seems as though there must have been many times where Shownu had to pay their late fee! Hopefully they’ll ease up on him eventually–or he’ll start showing up on time!
