10 Iconic Moments From “Queendom” Because We Miss It

A lookback at the iconic start to the series before we delve into “Kingdom”!

As “Road To Kingdom” wrapped up last night with The Boyz taking the win, we were reminded of the first show that kick-started this all – “Queendom“. “Queendom” brought to us some of the most amazing moments K-pop has ever seen, including the revival and image renewal of girl group AOA, as well as raising the recognition level on groups such as OH MY GIRL and (G)I-DLE. Here are 10 of the most iconic moments from the entire show.

1. (G)I-DLE’s Soojin wiping her lipstick off.

This moment literally gave us CHILLS. Not that the rest of the talented members performed any less, but Soojin’s command of emotion and choreography, paired with her poignant gaze was everything.

2. OH MY GIRL Seunghee’s reactions.

Seunghee was undoubtedly the reaction queen as she gave huge responses to each act without fail. Her “this is it!” exclamation became her trademark after the show.

Speechless? We were too.

3. OH MY GIRL’s traditional Korean version of “Destiny”

As much as the rest of the contestants were blown away by this melancholic cover, so were we! Jiho‘s ethereal looks and blond hair gave it even more of a mysterious vibe.

4. This. Moment. Right. Here.

We’re just going to let the pictures do the talking for this one.

MAMAMOO is always known for their command of the stage, and this semi-solo performance by vocalist Solar is no different! She wowed the crowd with her saucy and playful rendition of AOA’s “Good Luck“.

5. When AOA said f*ck gender roles.

In an amazing cover of MAMAMOO’s “Egotistic“, the girls of AOA broke out of their image as pinup girls by dressing down in suits. A sharp-eyed commenter even pointed out that the girls had purposely not worn any earrings or accessories, did their makeup toned-down and wore flat shoes to really break the barrier.

The result was magnificent and they even got the help of a waacking team to really drive the message in.

6. And when they were unabashedly sexy.

Part of breaking gender construct is also allowing girls to embrace their feminine and sultry sides, without any shame at all. The girls of AOA once again did right by the theme and showed off their mature sides without an ounce of shyness.

 Yes Hyejeong, serve.

7. When the girls of (G)I-DLE slayed “Lion”.

A track composed by their talented leader, Soyeon, more reserved members Miyeon and Shuhua were given a chance to shine in fiercer roles.

The hair flip by Miyeon simply stuns, and all the girls look absolutely royal.

8. When Lovelyz ate up the military concept.

Although it was uncharted territory for the normally cutesy group, the girls decided to challenge themselves with a cover of Brown Eyed Girls‘ “Sixth Sense“.

The girls totally slayed the military outfits and camo paint!

9. When Park Bom brought back “YOU AND I”

A song from the previous generation of K-pop girl groups, Park Bom brought back the feels hard. Upon hearing the opening notes of the song, Seunghee from OH MY GIRL said that the song was like perfume to her, meaning that it brings back memories. Soyeon from (G)I-DLE said that she might cry as well. Listen to the remade version of the old hit here.

10. The dance collaboration stage that was everything we ever dreamed of.

YooA from OH MY GIRL, Soojin from (G)I-DLE, Yein from Lovelyz, Chanmi from AOA, Moonbyul from MAMAMOO as well as a guest appearance by Eunji from Brave Girls, came together in a collaborative special stage.  The result was phenomenal as the girls performed solo stages as well as a group dance at the end.

Yein in particular, drew attention for her dance lines and elegant moves.

This boy losing it in the audience was probably us.

Even though it may be a year or so more before we see the return of “Queendom“, we can relive the performances via the official Mnet YouTube channel here, while we wait for the premiere of “Kingdom“, the male counterpart to the original show.
