The production team of Squid Game shared an updated statement regarding the phone number incident, sharing they are trying to work with the phone number’s owner to make amends.
When Squid Game first came out, netizens noticed a phone number on the card that Seong Gi Hun and the other contestants received. Naturally, some decided to call the number, and the owner revealed that they were receiving so many phone calls to the point they had to turn off their phone.
The first response from Netflix angered netizens, as Netflix claimed they simply couldn’t do anything.
And their second response didn’t fare much better, as the phone number’s owner revealed they tried to compensate the owner with money — first ₩1.00 million KRW (about $847 USD), then ₩5.00 million KRW (about $4,240 USD).
The production team has since shared a third update to the phone number issue, sharing that they are still trying to work out a solution, but no solution has been reached yet.
We are trying to solve this through continued phone calls and face-to-face meetings between the owner of the number and the production company.
