Netflix recognizes the high demand for quality Korean film and TV, and they’re delivering.

While we’ve become accustomed to a certain type of K-Drama, Netflix continues to break stereotypes. We may associate K-Dramas with sweet and fluffy romances, but the streaming service tests the waters by delivering more and more spicy content.

Last year, many tuned into Netflix to watch JTBC‘s Nevertheless, adapted from a Naver Webtoon of the same name, starring Han So Hee and Song Kang. This sexy drama contained episodes rated 19+.

Likewise, Han So Hee also starred in My Name last year for Netflix. This thrilling drama shocked viewers with a sex scene.

With more and more provocative Korean films and dramas being produced, we cannot be that surprised anymore to see not only more passionate kiss scenes but even more intimate moments between the leads these days. Yet, Netflix’s upcoming one is truly shocking netizens.

Netflix just dropped an official teaser for their upcoming Korean movie Love and Leashes. It comedically depicts the female lead, Ji Woo, “dominating” the male lead, Ji Hoo, by tying him up with a purple ribbon.

In the video’s description, Netflix’s The Swoon describes the plot. It’s revealed to be a romantic comedy movie that focuses on a BDSM relationship between co-workers.

When a very personal delivery mistakenly falls into the wrong hands at work, a no-nonsense subordinate and her new superior find their roles reversed after hours when they take their play into the bedroom.

BDSM is shorthand incorporating “bondage and discipline,” “dominance and submission,” and “sadism and masochism.” According to Wikipedia, “BDSM is a variety of often erotic practices or roleplaying involving bondage, discipline, dominance and submission, sadomasochism, and other related interpersonal dynamics. Given the wide range of practices, some of which may be engaged in by people who do not consider themselves to be practising BDSM, inclusion in the BDSM community or subculture often is said to depend on self-identification and shared experience.”

Naturally, netizens’ attention was captured. And, many were straight-up shook.

Netizens had a lot to say about it just based on the first teasers. And, some were even more humorous than the trailer itself.

Not only were the sexual implications surprising coming from a K-Drama, but the leads are also two recognizable K-Pop idols. The female lead is none other than Girls’ Generation‘s Seohyun as Ji Woo.

The male lead is U-KISS‘s Jun (also known as Lee Jun Young) as Ji Hoo.

So, of course, their fans are a bit surprised to see them in such provocative roles. It’s surely unlike any characters we’ve seen them play before.

Even the lead actor himself is a bit shy about the role. He retweeted the teaser with the “See-No-Evil” monkey emoji.

And, of course, for many, the plot and trailer are putting in mind 50 Shades of Grey, a Western erotic romance drama that is heavily focused on BDSM.

And, while the 50 Shades of Grey movie franchise was based on a series of books (that were originally Twilight fanfiction), Love and Leashes is based on Naver Webtoon Moral Sense. And as expected from the movie trailer, the plot of the Webtoon sounds just as racy…

Still, it may surprise you, but not in ways you expect. According to readers of Moral Sense, if the movie sticks true to the source material, it won’t be as “raunchy” or “explicit” as one may assume based on the subject matter.

Despite the mixed reactions, a considerable amount of netizens anticipate Love and Leashes‘ release. Many are expecting a hilarious and fun watch more than steamy and seductive.
