Man stabs himself in front of Seoul Mayor during his speech

Amidst the political turmoil in South Korea, a citizen has gone to great lengths to express his discontent.

A 79-year-old man stabbed himself in the abdomen during Seoul Mayor’s, Park Won Soon, speech at the city hall. The event was held to celebrate an opening of an exhibition on Frank W. Schofield, a scientist who lived in Korea and became involved in the country’s liberation from the Japanese Empire over the period of 1916-1920.

The man, who is currently being identified as Lee, was discontented and reportedly intoxicated when the incident occurred is said to have yelled before stabbing himself.

“Can you say you are a mayor?…. I need to die!”

The issue and reason for the stabbing seemed to have centered on a conflict between Lee and the city over a development issue that had been dropped.

The man was rushed to a hospital and remains in a stable condition. The situation is currently under investigation.
