American Singer Gallant Joins EXO’s Baekhyun, Red Velvet & More In Honoring BoA’s 20th Anniversary With A Cover Series

“Our Beloved BoA” will be released under SM Station.

With esteemed singer BoA’s 20th anniversary coming up, SM Entertainment’s SM Station project is set to honor her with a compilation of covers from five acts—including American singer Gallant.

Few artists have been active in the K-Pop industry as long as BoA. She debuted on August 25, 2000 at the age of just 13 years old, and she’s been going strong ever since. With unyielding success both in Korea and internationally, she’s often heralded as “the Queen of K-Pop”.

So, it’s only fitting that her label, SM Entertainment, has something big in the works to celebrate her 20th anniversary. On July 27, the company announced Our Beloved BoA—a series of five BoA song covers from different artists.

Up first is EXO’s Baekhyun, who will be covering “Garden in the Air”. The song is part of BoA’s fifth studio album Girls on Top, release in 2005.

The second cover will be “Atlantis Princess”, performed by Bolbbalgan4. “Atlantis Princess” is one of the singles from BoA’s 2003 studio album of the same name, which debuted at #1 on the charts.

The third cover is particularly special, because the artist covering it is American. Gallant is an African-American singer-songwriter from Maryland in the United States. He’s long been a fan of K-Pop, collaborating with artists like Eric Nam and MONSTA X. He’s also expressed a wish to collaborate with BLACKPINK’s Rosé.

Gallant must be a fan of BoA too, because he’ll be covering “Only One” as part of the SM Station project. One of her most famous songs, “Only One” was written by BoA herself and released in 2012.

Next up is Red Velvet, who will be covering “Milky Way”, another song from Atlantis Princess. The company has not yet stated whether Wendy took part in the recording. If she has, it will be one of the few releases fans have heard from her since a stage accident forced her into hiatus last December.

And last but not least, the final cover is Atlantis Princess hit “Tree” by SM Classics. SM Classics is a new division of SM Entertainment which recreates the company’s greatest hits with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

As of right now, SM Entertainment has not revealed a release schedule for Our Beloved BoA, but the songs are expected to be released in the lead-up to BoA’s anniversary in one month’s time.
