All the BTS members recently participated in individual interviews with GQ. During Suga’s interview, the interviewer asked him to discuss his desire to make music for a long time. The interviewer mentioned that Suga has been outspoken about his wish to keep making music for years and years, and the interviewer asked, “Is there a way for a person to continue doing something they like for a long time?”

Of course, Suga said he thinks it’s possible for people to keep doing what they love for a long time. However, he said he believed it’s only possible for people to do what they love for years if they don’t like it too much. He said, “It’s possible only if you don’t like it too much. If you like something too much, it’s difficult to carry on for a long time. I used to like music too much. I loved it so much that I tried to like it less. I’m still trying to love it less.”

Although Suga said he’s still trying to figure out how to love music less, he seems to have found a way to retain his love for music while making his passion for creating music a lifelong career. He revealed that he doesn’t listen to music unless he’s working on his own music and that he keeps music as far from him as possible.

I seek music only when I need it. If you love something too much, there comes a time when you have to give it up for that very reason. You need to keep it at a certain distance if you want to pursue it for a long time and if you don’t want to be consumed by it. If you give it too much meaning, it becomes very difficult to continue.

Suga’s been holding music at a distance for the past 5 years, and he feels like this is the “right move.” Suga believes he can let music flow out of him naturally without too much effort because he holds it at a distance.

Suga has blessed us with tons of hits over the course of his career so far, so it’s safe to say that keeping music at a distance is working for him! He’s written and produced great songs for himself as Agust D, for BTS, and for other artists, and it sounds like he’s just getting started from what he said in his GQ interview. We’re definitely looking forward to witnessing the rest of Suga’s long music career in the future!
