BTS Becomes The 1st Korean Act To Achieve Platinum Certification For Downloads In Japan

Their worldwide impact is no joke!

BTS is only getting bigger worldwide, and Japan is no exception. Now, the international hit group has become the first Korean act to achieve an RIAJ Platinum certification for exceptional downloads in Japan.

The RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) first began certifying singles based on downloads in 2014 after phasing out its ringtone and PC download certification charts. Since then, while several Korean groups have received RIAJ Platinum certifications for streaming, none have achieved the same feat for downloads—until now.

As of RIAJ’s recently released February 2021 certification list, BTS’s “Dynamite” is now certified Platinum for 250,000 downloads!

Not only does this make them the first Korean act to achieve RIAJ Platinum download certification, it also makes “Dynamite” the first non-Japanese song to achieve Platinum since Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” in December 2017.

The achievement marks yet another Japanese certification for BTS. The group already has 10 RIAJ-certified albums, including Double Platinum certification for Face Yourself (500,000 copies) and Triple Platinum certification for Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey (750,000 copies).

On top of that, they have 10 RIAJ certifications for streaming, including six songs certified Gold (50 million streams). Earlier this year, “Dynamite” received a Platinum streaming certification in Japan after hitting over 100 million streams.

Congratulations for BTS—or Bōdan Shōnendan, as they’re sometimes known in Japan!
