Neither HYBE nor YG Entertainment has come forward to confirm rumors, and all that has fueled the fires of these speculations are “unreleased” photos that many believe may be edited to seem as though the two were together in different places over the last few months including at V’s apartment.

Korean media outlets have also contributed to the rumor mill, stating that the two would be traveling to New York City together soon, something that YG Entertainment actually released a statement denying that it would be happening.

While many fans have stated they would accept these rumors as true if they are confirmed by the two, some people made unwarranted and misogynist comments about Jennie and her past dating history. Jennie previously was confirmed to be dating EXO’s Kai and had unverified rumors about her and BIGBANG’s G-Dragon. Netizens have compared her to western celebrity Taylor Swift, who has faced similar negative comments because of her dating history as well.

BLINKs have begun defending Jennie from the comments with many stating that dating is normal for someone who is Jennie’s age and that even non-celebrities date as “frequently” as Jennie is alleged to. Some fans even believe that many of the misogynistic comments are coming from other women and are a product of internalized sexism, or prejudice towards women and girls by minimizing their value.

While some fans believe that the two should be able to date in private, others think that YG Entertainment should be more proactive in protecting Jennie from malicious comments online. BLACKPINK as a group are often the targets of extremely hateful and mean comments that often include death threats.

More often than not, female idols are on the receiving end of a majority of the hate that comes with dating rumors with male idols. V has also received hate comments leading ARMY to demand that HYBE take proactive steps in protecting him.
