TOP 15 Most Highly Anticipated Korean Movies of 2018

It’s going to be another blockbuster-filled year for K-Movies!

1. Psychokinesis

From the creators of Train to Busan, Psychokinesis is about a man (played by Ryu Seung Ryong) who gets superpowers and saves his daughter (played by Shim Eun Kyung).

 

2. Drug War

A remake of the movie Drug War from Hong Kong, this Korean version is one of the few movies left behind by actor Kim Joo Hyuk who passed away in 2017. Drug War is about a cop (actor Cho Jin Woong) joining forces with a drug dealer (actor Ryu Jun Yeol) to bring down Asia’s largest drug cartel.

 

3. Witness

This mystery-thriller movie is about a man (played by Lee Sung Min) witnessing a murder in an apartment complex. Witness is one of the many movies set to be released in 2018 starring actor Lee Sung Min.

 

4. Wind Wind Wind

From the creators of Twenty, Wind Wind Wind is titled after a play on the word baram which means “wind”, “affair”, and “hope”. Actors Lee Sung Min, Shin Ha Kyun, Song Ji Hyo, and Lee El filmed this comedy on Jeju Island.

 

5. Rampant

Rampant is a zombie action blockbuster set in the Chosun dynasty of Korea. Actors Hyun Bin and Jang Dong Gun play the top two leading roles.

 

6. Ansisung (Siege of Ansi)

Ansisung, yet to be titled in English, is a super blockbuster based on the 88-days Siege of Ansi in ancient Korea. This movie features a fantastic cast, from actor Jo In Sung to model Nam Joo Hyuk to AOA‘s Seolhyun.

 

7. Keys to the Heart

From the creators of The Himalayas comes the heartwarming family movie Keys to the Heart. A washed-up boxer (played by actor Lee Byung Hun) and a pianist with savant syndrome (played by actor Park Jung Min) are reunited as brothers. Park Jung Min said he practiced piano for 900 hours for his role.

 

9. Golden Slumber

Based on the Japanese novel by Kōtarō Isaka, Golden Slumber is about an average man (played by actor Kang Dong Won) who is framed as an assassin. Against the authorities, Kang Dong Won’s character tries to reveal the truth.

 

10. The Princess and the Matchmaker

From the creators of “The Face Reader” is another romantic comedy “The Princess and the Matchmaker”.

Based on the idea behind the Korean traditional study of fortune, The Princess and the Matchmaker is about a princess (played by Shim Eun Kyung) who can’t find the perfect husband and the matchmaker (played by Lee Seung Ki) who stands up to the challenge of finding her one.

 

11. The Accidental Detective 2

A sequel to the 2015 action comedy The Accidental Detective, this movie is about two detectives (played by Kwon Sang Woo and Sung Dong Il) who have successfully opened a private investigation agency and set out to solve their first mystery as a team.

12. Heung-boo: The Revolutionist

Based on the Korean folktale “Heungboo and Nolboo”, Heung-boo: The Revolutionist is a drama set in the historic times of Korea. It’s about Heungboo (played by Jung Woo), a genius novelist, and two brothers (played by Kim Joo Hyuk and Jang Jin Young) who are completely different and inspire Heungboo to write the “Heungboo and Nolboo” story.

With director Cho Keun Hyun‘s sexual harassment scandal, and with it being one of the few movies set to release after the death of Kim Joo Hyuk, Heung-boo: The Revolutionist is garnering a lot of attention right now.

 

13. Be With You

Based on the Japanese novel and movie of the same name, the Korean version of Be With You is a heartbreaking drama film. Actress Son Ye Jin plays a woman who leaves her husband(played by So Ji Sub), but returns later without any memory of him at all.

 

14. Along With the Gods 2

Based on the popular Naver webtoon Along with the Gods by Joo Ho Min, the first of the Along with the Gods series (as a film) was a huge success. Its sequel, “Along with the Gods 2” will feature more gods and characters, along with the original cast Ha Jung Woo, Joo Ji Hoon, and Kim Hyang Gi.

Some of the cast who have been accused of sexual harassment with the Korean #MeToo movement, including actors Oh Dal Soo and Choi Il Hwa, will not be returning to the series. The production team is working on reshooting the scenes involving the actors in question.

15. Little Forest

Based on a manga series of the same name by Daisuke Igarashi, Little Forest is about three good friends (played by Kim Tae Ri, Ryu Jun Yeol, and Jin Ki Joo) returning to their hometown to recover from their exhausting city lives.

Koreans have dubbed this film one of the most healing movies of the year.
