Just because a K-Pop idol debuted during a specific year or “generation”, doesn’t mean they’re around the same age as the majority that debuted at the same time! While most idols do debut within a specific age range, there are certainly many exceptions. Here’s a look at 11 pairs of K-Pop idols who you probably didn’t realize are the same age!
1. Kai (EXO) & Taeil (NCT)
Kai debuted with EXO at the very beginning of the third generation in April 2012, while Taeil made his debut with NCT exactly 4 years later in April 2016. Despite the difference, they’re both 28, with Kai born on January 14, 1994, and Taeil born on June 14, 1994!
2. Seohyun (Girls’ Generation) & Irene (Red Velvet)
Seohyun is an iconic part of the second generation of K-Pop and debuted with Girls’ Generation in August 2007, while Irene is a staple of the third generation and debuted with Red Velvet a whole seven years later in August 2014. But they’re both, incredibly, 31 years old, with Seohyun born on June 28, 1991 and Irene born on March 29, 1991, making her actually 3 months older!
3. Bang Chan (Stray Kids) & Jungkook (BTS)
Jungkook has been in the K-Pop industry for nearly a decade now, debuting with BTS in June 2013. Bang Chan, meanwhile, was still a rookie just a couple of years ago as he debuted as the leader of Stray Kids in March 2018. But they’re both 24 at this time, with Jungkook born on September 1, 1997 and Bang Chan just a month younger with a birthday on October 3, 1997!
4. Kyuhyun (Super Junior) & Jessi
Kyuhyun debuted as a member of Super Junior a little late, as he was added to the group in May 2006. Jessi, meanwhile, debuted the year before in December 2005. While their debut dates aren’t too far apart, their personalities and maturities are quite different, making it more surprising that they’re both 1988 babies, with Kyuhyun born on February 3 and Jessi born on December 17.
5. Taemin (SHINee) & Donghun (A.C.E)
Taemin debuted at just 14 with SHINee in May 2008, so he’s closer in age to many idols who debuted later in the industry. Donghun debuted with A.C.E. nearly a decade later in May 2017, but they were born the same year! They’re both 29, with Taemin born on July 18, 1993 and Donghun born on February 28, 1993.
6. Solar (MAMAMOO) & CL
Solar, unlike Taemin, debuted at a later age than most, and was already 23 when she debuted with MAMAMOO in June 2014. CL, on the other hand, debuted with 2NE1 five years earlier in 2009, but they were born the same year! Solar’s birthday is February 21, 1991, while CL’s is February 26, 1991 — making Solar five days older.
7. Yeojin (LOONA) & Gaeul (IVE)
Yeojin debuted with LOONA officially in August 2018, though the group was active as a pre-debut act as early as 2016. Gaeul, meanwhile, debuted just last year with IVE in December 2021, but the two idols are both 19! Yeojin was born on November 11, 2002, while Gaeul was born on September 24, 2002, making her actually two months older.
8. Nayeon (TWICE) & Hwasa (MAMAMOO)
These two vocal powerhouses are the same age too! Though Nayeon debuted with TWICE in October 2015 while Hwasa debuted with MAMAMOO in 2014, they are the oldest and youngest members of their groups respectively, both born in 1995. Nayeon’s birthday is September 22, while Hwasa’s is July 23!
9. Krystal (f(x)) & Sehun (EXO)
Krystal debuted solidly as a second-generation K-Pop idol as the maknae of f(x) in September 2009, while Sehun debuted as the maknae of EXO in April 2012. Despite being the youngest members of groups that debuted 3 years apart, both idols are 1994 babies! Krystal was born on October 24, while Sehun was born on April 12, making him actually five months older.
10. Dino (SEVENTEEN) & Yeonjun (TXT)
Finally, though Dino debuted with SEVENTEEN in May 2015 and Yeonjun debuted with TXT in March 2019, they were both born in 1999! Dino, the youngest of SEVENTEEN, was born on February 11, while Yeonjun, the oldest of TXT, was born on September 13.
