2 Female K-Pop Idols That Have Succeeded In Group, Unit, And Solo Activities

We love talented queens.

With K-Pop idols, it’s natural for them to want to venture out in solo and unit activities after being a part of a group for a long period of time.

There is always a risk when it comes to other solo activities in that their image as part of a group is too strong. There are always exceptions to these risks as we will see with two different girl group members that have succeeded in both solo and unit activities!

Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon

Taeyeon debuted as part of Girls’ Generation in 2007 under SM Entertainment as well as other SM project groups including TaeTiSeo, SM the Ballad, and Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG.

Before even branching off as a solo singer, she continued to expand her career by recording original soundtracks for dramas. Then in 2015, she released her debut EP I.

Even after being successful as a group, unit and solo, she released her first Japanese EP, Voice in 2019. Her most recent digital single Happy was released to celebrate her birthday.

Fin.K.L’s Lee Hyori

Lee Hyori, who debuted as a member of the girl group Fin.K.L, has gone on to not only be a performer but also an actress, producer, activist, and TV host.

She released her debut album Stylish in 2003 and was also the highest-paid female artist back in 2006.

She married guitarist Lee Sang Soon in 2013 and continued to release albums even after moving to Jeju Island.

Most recently, she has joined project group SSAK3 with singer Rain and Yoo Jae Suk and hit number one on the charts with their song “Summer Sea Again.”

Both these idols are also the only girl group members to have won daesangs as a group and as a solo artist as of late.
