Webtoons (Korean comics that are released weekly online) are extremely popular in Korea. Famous Korean portal sites such as Naver Webtoon and Daum have huge communities that come online every day to enjoy these webtoons. Many webtoons have even been adapted into your favorite K-Dramas! Here’s a list of some of the best webtoons out there.

 

1. Tower of God – SIU

Tower of God is about a boy, Twenty-Fifth Bam, who has spent his life trapped under a mysterious Tower, with only his friend Rachel to keep him company. All he wants is to keep living with her, but Rachel wants to reach the top of the Tower. She embarks on her journey and Bam follows, facing challenges as they travel the Tower.

 

 

2. Red Storm – Noh Gyung Chan

This comic follows Yulian Provoke, the Young Glow of the Pareia Tribe, who dreams of becoming the Red Desert’s strongest warrior. He meets Noya, a powerful man from a different dimension who teaches him a unique kind of martial arts. Later in the story, Red Storm arcs into Yulian’s plan to create a team of warriors strong enough to solve the “Red Storm”.

 

3. Noblesse – Son Jeho & Lee Kwangsoo

Cadis Etrama Di Raizel (or Rai for short!) is a powerful noble who has been asleep for 820 years. He has no idea how much mankind has advanced since he first fell asleep. After Rai wakes up in an abandoned building in Korea, he begins to adapt to modern life by attending school. At school, Rai befriends Shinwoo (an athlete), Ikhan (a computer geek), and more. Noblesse follows the friends’ daunting adventures as they fight a secret organization while uncovering Rai’s past.

 

4. Trace – Nasty Cat

Thirty years before the story begins, a mysterious species called Troubles invaded Earth. Entering the human world had unexpected consequences: an energy blast that created humans with superpowers. These rare super-humans are known as Traces. For every Trouble there is a Trace. Two of these Traces, Sa Ghang-gwon and Kim Yun-seong, are each fighting their own battles and dark pasts.

Trace also has a sequel, Trace 2.0.

The story follows an immortal magician, Edermask, as he tries to find out the secret behind his immortality. Iremi, a magician prodigy, and Enzu, a talented sword-wielder, join him on his journey.

The leader of a biker gang dies and finds himself heading to Hell. To escape this fate and qualify for reincarnation, he needs to collect 100 black bracelets from other condemned souls.

 

7. God Of High School – Park Yongje

Mori Jin, a teenaged Taekwondo specialist, joins a fighting tournament that will determine the best high-school-aged fighter in Korea. He soon learns that there is something much greater beneath the stage of the tournament.

 

8. Black Behemoth – Keyijikon

This story follows six contestants as they compete to become the next powerful Talisman. Each one has their own past, and it’s only a matter of time before it catches up with them.

 

9. Dr. Frost – Lee Jong-Beom

Brilliant psychologist Dr. Frost uses the belief that all humans are the same to guide his practice. Due to a frontal lobe injury, his reasoning abilities are genius but he is unable to feel empathy, love, sorrow and other emotional responses.

This webtoon was adapted into a K-Drama in 2014.

 

10. Dice – Yun Hyunseok

Dong Tae gets bullied by his classmates, has terrible grades, and no luck in love, but things change when he finds a magical cube called “dice” and is given the chance to re-do his life by playing a game.

This webtoon was adapted into a supernatural K-Drama in 2016.
